Synopsis
Amara's boyfriend, David, has a problem he can't seem to solve. His three closest friends have practically moved into his apartment, eating his food, using his electricity, and enjoying his hospitality without contributing a single naira. Although David constantly complains about the situation, he refuses to confront them because they have been friends for years.
Tired of watching her boyfriend struggle, Amara decides to take matters into her own hands. She arrives with groceries, cooks delicious meals, and serves everyone. But when the food disappears almost immediately, she begins to realize just how comfortable the friends have become at David's expense.
On the fourth day, Amara asks them to contribute ₦50,000 toward another cooking budget. Instead of cooperating, one friend laughs and dismisses her request, prompting the others to join in. Embarrassed and angry, Amara cooks another pot of soup with her own money but reserves every portion for David. When one of the friends attempts to take the food, she confronts him privately and makes it clear that it isn't for him.
Her actions spark tension in the apartment. The friends accuse her of trying to control David and interfere with their friendship. One openly mocks her, asking who made her the landlord. David is caught between the woman he loves and the friends he has known for years. When Amara demands that he finally stand up for himself, he becomes defensive, accusing her of making things worse.
The atmosphere grows increasingly uncomfortable. Amara continues disrupting their endless gaming sessions by switching the television to Netflix, and the friends begin to feel unwelcome. After another heated exchange about household expenses, one friend threatens to leave only if David asks him to go himself. Everyone turns toward David, waiting for his response.
For the first time, David must decide whether preserving his friendships is worth sacrificing his peace of mind. The confrontation reaches its breaking point, and by the sixth day of Amara's presence, the friends finally pack their belongings and leave. David's apartment becomes peaceful again, and Amara feels proud of helping him reclaim his space.
But the victory doesn't last.
A month later, Amara and David break up. Barely a week afterward, she sees a video of David happily playing games with the same friends in his apartment. His caption reads, "Blood."
Amara realizes that she had fought a battle David never truly wanted to win. She had helped him remove his friends, but she couldn't change his attitude toward boundaries.
From that moment on, she makes it a priority to discuss friendship, personal space, financial responsibility, and boundaries before committing to a relationship.
The lesson: You can support someone you love, but you cannot establish boundaries on their behalf if they are unwilling to maintain them.
