REVENUE SHARING AND CREATOR PAYMENTS POLICY
5.1 Purpose
African Story MovieBox provides eligible creators with an opportunity to earn revenue through a shared monetization model.
This policy explains how revenue is allocated, how qualified views are evaluated, and how creator payments are administered.
5.2 Standard 50/50 Revenue-Sharing Model
The standard arrangement for eligible user-uploaded content is:
Revenue allocation
Share
African Story MovieBox platform
50%
Collective creator revenue pool
50%
Total
100%
The creator pool is shared among eligible participating creators according to the applicable qualified-view calculation.
Important: The 50% creator share is a collective pool, not an automatic 50% payment to each individual creator.
Example
Suppose the platform has ₦1,000,000 in eligible revenue available for distribution under a particular monetization period.
The allocation would be:
Platform share — 50%
₦500,000
Creator pool — 50%
₦500,000
Total
₦1,000,000
The ₦500,000 creator pool is then distributed among eligible creators according to their respective qualified viewing activity.
These figures are illustrative. Actual distributions depend on the applicable revenue definition, deductions, eligibility requirements, and accounting records.
5.3 Revenue Sources
Depending on the monetization programme, eligible revenue may include:
Allocated subscription revenue.
Revenue from qualifying paid content access.
Other monetization revenue expressly included in the applicable programme.
Not every revenue source is automatically included in the creator pool.
African Story MovieBox may operate separate revenue arrangements for different products, content categories, or commercial agreements.
The applicable programme terms determine which revenue sources are eligible.
5.4 Qualified Views
A qualified view is a view that satisfies the platform’s applicable eligibility and validation rules.
The platform may evaluate:
Actual playback duration.
Whether playback was genuine.
Whether the viewer is repeatedly generating artificial engagement.
Whether the content is eligible for monetization.
Whether the creator is complying with platform rules.
For eligible premium movies, the platform may require a viewer to watch at least 60% of the actual video duration for the viewing activity to qualify under the applicable programme.
A preview, an incomplete playback, or a view that fails the relevant qualification requirements may not count as a monetized view.
The platform may update its technical validation rules where necessary to prevent fraud, provided applicable contractual and legal requirements are respected.
5.5 Distribution of the Creator Pool
Where creator revenue is allocated according to qualified views, a creator’s share may be calculated using the following formula:
Creator payout = Available creator pool × Creator’s qualified views ÷ Total qualified views of all eligible creators
Example
Suppose:
Available creator pool: ₦500,000.
Creator A has 20,000 qualified views.
All eligible creators collectively have 100,000 qualified views.
Creator A’s illustrative share would be:
₦500,000 × 20,000 ÷ 100,000 = ₦100,000.
This calculation is illustrative and assumes that all qualified views are weighted equally and that no other programme-specific adjustment applies.
5.6 Excluded Views
The following may be excluded from monetization:
Artificial or automated views.
Fraudulent or incentivized viewing that violates platform rules.
Repeated self-viewing intended to manipulate earnings.
Views generated through unauthorized playback methods.
Views associated with content that is not eligible for monetization.
African Story MovieBox may adjust preliminary earnings when invalid activity is identified.
5.7 Earnings Estimates
Any earnings displayed on a creator dashboard may be estimates rather than final payable amounts.
Final earnings may be affected by:
Revenue reconciliation.
Qualified-view validation.
Refunds and chargebacks.
Fraud investigations.
Programme-specific adjustments.
Applicable withholding taxes or other legally required deductions.
The platform should identify estimated and finalized balances clearly wherever technically possible.
5.8 Payment Eligibility
Creators may need to satisfy additional requirements before receiving payments, including:
Account verification.
Identity verification where required.
Valid payment details.
Minimum payout thresholds, if established and disclosed.
Tax documentation where legally required.
Compliance with the platform’s monetization policies.
The platform should publish its minimum payout amount and payment schedule before applying them to creators.
5.9 Payment Timing
Creator payments are subject to revenue reconciliation, account verification, payment-provider processing, and any applicable legal requirements.
African Story MovieBox will communicate its applicable payout schedule through the creator dashboard or another designated official channel.
We do not guarantee that payment providers will process every transaction instantly.
5.10 Fraud and Disputed Earnings
Where credible evidence indicates fraudulent activity, African Story MovieBox may temporarily suspend disputed earnings while investigating.
The platform should distinguish disputed earnings from legitimate, undisputed balances and handle each according to the applicable policy and law.
Creators may submit an appeal or supporting information through the designated support channel.
5.11 Taxes
Creators are responsible for understanding and complying with applicable tax obligations relating to their earnings.
African Story MovieBox may collect necessary tax information or make legally required deductions where applicable.
5.12 No Guaranteed Income
Revenue sharing is performance-based.
The platform does not promise a fixed income, minimum number of views, or guaranteed monthly payment unless a separate written agreement expressly provides otherwise.
